Nonprofit compliance - legal requirements and best practices

Operating a nonprofit—whether as a board member or key staff—comes with significant legal and fiduciary responsibilities. While every organization is unique, all nonprofits must comply with state and federal requirements to maintain tax-exempt status and safeguard charitable assets.

Join the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and LegalCORPS for a special one-hour presentation covering essential legal requirements and best practices for charitable organizations and private foundations in Minnesota. Designed for both new and experienced nonprofit leaders, this session will help you build or refresh your understanding of the nonprofit legal landscape and support effective, compliant governance.

Note: the content will be the same for each event, but may be updated with major changes to state and federal law.

Speaker:
Joshua D. Franklin, Esq. serves as the Legal Services Director at LegalCORPS, Minnesota’s only statewide business legal aid organization. In this role, he oversees a network of more than 250 pro bono attorneys who support entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations through brief advice clinics, limited-scope representation, and educational workshops. This work helps organizations navigate legal challenges, promote strong board governance, and advance equitable economic development across Minnesota.
