New business information reporting requirement for Minnesota employers
Minnesota businesses now have a new annual reporting requirement through the Secretary of State’s office. The state’s Business Information Reporting (BIR) process is designed to ensure Minnesota has accurate, current information about employers and their workforce. Elevate Hennepin is sharing this update to help local entrepreneurs stay informed and maintain compliance with changing state requirements.
Most Minnesota employers must complete a short, no‑fee report each year that confirms basic business details such as structure, employment counts, and contact information.
This information helps the state strengthen employer resources, improve data accuracy, and better support Minnesota’s business community. Businesses that do not complete the required report may risk falling out of compliance with state reporting obligations.
Minnesota employers can review requirements and submit their report online through the Secretary of State’s portal.
